Daniel and Amanda Negreanu have given PokerOrg a sneak peek (see video above) into their new intimate collaboration, the Mania Podcast, set to premiere on the GGPoker ambassador’s popular YouTube channel at noon PST on Tuesday, November 12.
What can you expect? Well, Negreanu is keen to point out this “is not a poker podcast.” Instead, you should expect an authentically messy yet immensely entertaining ride if their no-holds-barred, confessional banter during our exclusive interview is any indication of future episodes.
Amanda Negreanu: I have bipolar disorder
Tuesday’s first episode in what is set to be a weekly drop will take a deep dive into the former poker TV host’s journey after she was diagnosed bipolar and the many reasons why marriage wasn’t in the cards the first time the couple got together.
“That’s why we chose the name – Mania Podcast,” confessed Amanda. “Because I have bipolar disorder. We will discuss how that issue works in our life together now and over the last twenty years and how it doesn’t work.”
Daniel was quick to chime in with support for his wife and explain the issues they encountered at the beginning of their relationship. “When you don’t know you have bipolar disorder, you live a manic-depressive life,” said Daniel. “When you’re manic, you’re high, depressive, you’re low, but you’re unaware of it. So, when we first met, it would never have worked if we had gotten married.”
WTF? No poker?
If the Mania Podcast doesn’t sound like a poker show, you would be 99% correct. However, poker is essentially a huge part of Daniel’s life, so expect the subject to pop up often.
“Poker will come up occasionally because we’re talking about our relationship,” said Daniel. “And part of our relationship is me playing poker. But we wanted to do a podcast about our life together forever. So, recently, we just looked at each other and said, ‘F*ck it! Let’s just do the thing. Let’s see how people respond to it.’”
Daniel Negreanu: You can’t cancel me
To say Kid Poker has never been shy when discussing anything and everything from poker to politics would be a vast understatement. He can be controversial and confrontational, opinionated and outlandish, and at the same time open-hearted and open-minded. Expect more of the same on the Mania Podcast.
Simultaneously, Daniel is living the poker dream. He’s one of the most beloved and successful players in the game: dream career, dream house, and dream wife. He’s got it all, right?
Yet, years of experience have taught Daniel to keep his friends close and the trolls even closer.
“It’s a freeing feeling to trust yourself and be able to be more authentically myself as I’ve grown older,” Daniel said. “In your twenties, you care what people think, whether you think so or not. In your thirties, you don’t think you care as much. But you still care. Once you hit your forties, f*ck it. This is me. You can’t cancel me. Because I don’t give a shit.”
Amanda Negreanu: We’re telling PokerOrg first
Daniel and Amanda also revealed a feature that’s set to be a hit with viewers.
“We’re going to be chatting live in the comments while the show is running,” shared Amanda. “We haven’t told anyone about that. We’re telling the PokerOrg audience first.”
It’s your chance to find out more about one of the most polarizing players in the game – and his wife, their relationship, and much more. There will be poker, but more importantly, the Mania Podcast will feature the trials and tribulations of life, love, and the highs and lows of everything sandwiched in between.
You can follow the Mania Podcast, Daniel and Amanda on X. The first episode drops at noon PST on Tuesday, November 12.
