Adam told Poker News that he thought he was just cold, so he stepped in the shower to heat up.

He explained in a YouTube Short for Poker Org that he shook while in the shower and the shivers were “the worst” he’s ever felt.

“Something was definitely wrong,” Adam said.

He decided to get out of the shower and left his hotel room to see security.

On his way to get help, he heard his defibrillator go off and felt the shock.

Defibrillators are given to individuals who are at risk of arrhythmia or cardiac arrest.

If the heart stops, the device applies an electric charge to restore a normal heartbeat.

After rushing to the hospital, doctors told Adam that he likely suffered a heart attack.

“So, I mean, they didn’t see any damage, they did what they could do. They got my vitals, everything, looking good. And they gave me some strong medicines to get me through today,” Adam told Poker News.

He explained that the doctors would’ve kept him longer, but he had a $10 million tournament to attend.

Adam added that he didn’t believe he suffered a heart attack, adding that the symptoms reminded him of a virus he had in 2014.

He said he contracted a virus “similar to Covid” that attacked his liver and heart.

Adam received treatment for his liver condition and was given a defibrillator for his heart.

SHOW MUST GO ON

Despite Adam’s health scare, he returned to the 2024 World Series of Poker hours after his hospital visit.

What is the World Series of Poker?

The World Series of Poker can be thought as the Olympics of gambling. Read more about the tournament below,

  • The World Series of Poker (WSOP) takes place over several weeks in the summer and brings together the best poker players in the world.
  • Players must “buy in” to the tournament. Some games have a lower buy-in and anyone can participate.
  • Texas Hold ‘Em is the most prestigious game and is the Main Event at the WSOP.
  • The winner of the Main Event is awarded $10 million, but there are many chances to take home large sums.
  • This year’s tournament runs from May 28 to July 17.
  • The ESOP Main Event Bracelet began on July 3.
  • The tournament takes place at the Horseshoe Las Vegas.

Adam competed in the tournament’s first four days before the emergency and wanted to return for the fifth day.

He told Poker News that he found motivation to continue through his sons.

“The reason I’m here — the only reason I’m here is because I have two boys, and I want to give them $10 million,” he told the publication.

The World Series of Poker is an annual tournament held in Las Vegas, Nevada, the gambling capital of the world.

The best poker players meet for a rigorous multi-day competition in hopes of winning millions of dollars.

Adam walked in on Day 5 of the event to a group of the best poker players who were confused that he wanted to return to the table.

“I am getting a little negative feedback at the table,” Adam told Poker News.

“One guy is a little outspoken that I shouldn’t be here,” he continued.

Despite the negative attention, Adam proved the other players wrong when he walked away with a whopping $60,000 and a minimum payout of $40,000.

Adam finished the day in 117th place. The World Series of Poker wraps up next Wednesday, July 17.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Adam Rude and the World Series of Poker but did not immediately hear back.
