Wildcats deliver solid performance at Alpena Invitational on Friday

ALPENA — The Alpena High School Wildcats girls golf team showcased its prowess at the 2024 Alpena Invitational on Friday, with three teams competing and demonstrating strength and depth across the field.

Alpena’s top team finished fourth overall, with a score of 374, putting that team just behind Traverse City Central, which took third with 367.

Leading the Wildcats was sophomore Grace Bouchard, who carded 81 to place among the top individual performers of the day.

Senior Katie Bushey also contributed significantly with a solid round of 95, followed by juniors Jami Richards and Brook Schroeder, who shot 98 and 102, respectively.

Senior Faith Dragiewicz rounded out the scores for the team with a 100.

Despite falling short of a podium finish, the Wildcats showed they can compete with the best teams in the region, such as Cadillac, which took first place with a score of 354, and Petoskey, which secured second with 361.

Alpena Team 2 faced tough competition but fought hard to finish in seventh place, with a total score of 471.

Freshman Hannah Brownridge led the team with a 101, showing promise for the future.

Senior Madison Shearer followed with a 119 and freshmen Caroline Robertson and Brielle O’Connor finished with scores of 125 and 137, respectively.

Alpena’s Team 3 was represented by freshman Claire Kinzey, who shot a 136 in the tournament.

As the season progresses, the Wildcats will look to build on those results and continue pushing for podium finishes, led by the solid efforts of their seniors and promising contributions from first-year students like Bouchard and Brownridge.
