Options are always a good thing when it comes to traveling.

Now, Southwest Florida travelers have another option thanks to Allegiant Air, which launched a new destination today (Feb. 13) from Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) in Charlotte County, just north of the Lee County line.

Last November (2024) Allegiant announced a major expansion, adding 44 new nonstop routes. The new routes will connect passengers in 51 cities across the United States, with a focus on underserved communities and vacation destinations.

Twelve new routes are being added this month, including starting today (Feb. 13) the Punta Gorda/Fort Myers to Chattanooga, Tennessee route.

The airline focuses on serving leisure traffic from small and medium-sized cities which it considers to be underserved, using an ultra low-cost business model with minimal inclusions in fares and a greater number of add-on fees.
