Timothée Chalamet Celebrates Oscar Nomination With Poker Night

Must read

Timothée Chalamet’s Oscar nomination this year came with a bit of an unusual pre-awards show celebration – poker night at the Chateau Marmont hotel in L.A. last week.

Nominated for his portrayal as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, the 29-year-old actor hosted a night of celebration sponsored by Cartier. According to GQ, the event was a star-studded affair.

“Cut to a posh evening in a spacious suite on the sixth floor of the famed LA hotel – three full poker tables complete with dealers, bartenders, a DJ playing everything from Sinatra to ‘Let the Beat Build,’ and a rooftop patio that included a cigar station – filled with friends both close and equally famous, including Tobey Maguire, Kevin Hart, Rich Paul, Nathan Fielder, Theo Von, Kid Cudi, and Kylie Jenner,” GQ reported.

Unlike many celebrity poker events, the A-listers at this game apparently brought some serious skills.

Maguire is well-regarded as a top-notch player, but has been criticized for some of his antics at the poker table. Hart is also a regular at the table, having served as an ambassador for an online poker site. He also once boxed Antonio Esfandiari.

The comedian quickly sent musician Marcus Mumford packing at Chalamet’s game.

Canadian comedian and actor Fielder also apparently shined as a card player with Chalamet noting, “He’s a beast.” Maguire was actually one of the first to lose all his chips, while Hart kept running over his table and Chalamet apparently lost a big pot to Jenner.

“She was, sneakily, one of the most formidable players at the table,” GQ noted of Jenner, “raising big bets with the confidence of a high roller.”

Chalamet didn’t come out on top on Sunday. The Oscar instead went to Adrien Brody for his performance in The Brutalist. He also won the award in 2003 for The Pianist.

However, Chalamet apparently made a nice impression at the tables.

“Overall it was a private but far from debaucherous night, one that our host didn’t even seem to be all that interested in centering on himself,” GQ reported. “Awards talk never came up in conversation. Behind closed doors and in familiar company, the young Chalamet is just as laid-back as his press tour suggests. We’ll see if his luck holds until Oscar night — but even if it doesn’t, it’s a safe bet he’ll be back to play another hand soon.”
