Must read

If you’re living in or around the Lehigh Valley, you’re a short trip away from visiting one of the 10 best independent ice cream shops in the nation.

That’s according to USA Today, which last month published its list of the 10 best indie ice cream shops across the nation. The news outlet regularly publishes “10Best” features on some of the nation’s favorite pastimes.

“Selected by a panel of experts and voted by readers as the best in the U.S., these spots were chosen for their use of quality, fresh ingredients and creative takes on this beloved frozen treat,” USA Today said.

Finishing in the third spot was Owowcow Creamery, which has locations in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, including one at the Simon Silk Mill in Easton.

An’s Dry Cleaning in San Diego, California came in at No. 1, according to USA Today.

Victaulic plans expansion of Lawrenceville plant

Victaulic, the Forks Township-based maker of mechanical pipe-joining systems, plans to expand one of its Pennsylvania facilities in a $100 million investment that will create 214 new jobs, the company announced Monday.

“When complete the 150,000-square-foot addition to the Lawrenceville foundry will accommodate new molding lines, melt furnaces, core machines, automated finishing, and paint equipment,” the company said in a statement. “The expansion will also include a 60,000-square-foot machine shop with state-of-the-art CNC equipment.”

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and the state Department of Community and Economic Development awarded Victaulic $1.5 million in grants for the project, the company said.

“By investing in economic development projects like this one, we are creating good-paying jobs, reigniting our economy, and supporting our communities,” Shapiro said in a statement.

A timeline on the project wasn’t immediately available.

The Lawrenceville facility is in north-central Pennsylvania’s Tioga County.
