“The Last Kingdom” and “My Policeman” star David Dawson leads an international cast in the dystopian thriller “The Flaw,” the feature directorial debut of Theophilos Papastylianos, which is currently filming in Athens.

Dawson is joined by U.K. actors Arthur McBain (“Napoleon”, “Interview with the Vampire”), Ralf Little (“The Royle Family,” “Death in Paradise”) and Danny John-Jules (“Red Dwarf,” “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”). Veteran Greek theater director Angela Brouskou also joins the cast in a lead role.

Set in a dystopian world dominated by the Regime, “The Flaw” follows a ruthless Interrogator (Dawson) who is ordered by the Special Service to follow a perfect Plan to prove a Suspect (McBain) is guilty. But once the interrogation gets underway, he comes to realize that there is a flaw not only in the Plan, but also in the Regime itself.

Published in 1965, “The Flaw” is the best-known work of Antonis Samarakis, one of the leading figures in modern Greek literature. It has been translated into more than 30 languages and won France’s prestigious Grand Prix de Littérature Poilicière in 1970.

The novel, which was published just two years before a military junta seized power in Greece, is a meditation on truth, state oppression, democracy and power that remains chillingly relevant today.

“The Flaw” is produced by Argonauts Productions in co-production with Greek public broadcaster ERT and Latvia’s Mima Films, with the support of the Greek Film Center, EKOME and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia.

The producers are Panos Papahadzis, Lina Yannopoulou and Theophilos Papastylianos, with Alise Rogule serving as co-producer. The film is written and directed by Papastylianos.

Athens-based Argonauts Productions, which co-produced David Cronenberg’s Cannes competition entry “Crimes of the Future,” recently wrapped season 1 of Prime Video’s anticipated Biblical drama series “House of David.”

Dawson most recently appeared in the BBC drama “This Town” from “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight. McBain, whose credits include Ridley Scott’s period epic “Napoleon” and AMC’s “Interview with the Vampire,” will soon appear alongside Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and an all-star cast in Prime Video’s U.K. Original action-comedy “Deep Cover.”

Little is best known for his work in the BBC series “Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps,” “The Royle Family” and “Death in Paradise.” John-Jules, a longtime regular on the sci-fi TV series “Red Dwarf,” also appeared in “Blade 2” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.” Brouskou has directed a wide range of classical and contemporary theater and is the co-founder with Parthenopi Bouzouri of Athens’ Theater of the Room.

Rounding out the film’s cast is Sarah Akokhia, Georgia Small, Nathan Thomas, Mihalis Valasoglou, Matthew Sim, Ben Tavassoli and Skyrah Archer.
