Sunday Headlines: First College World Series Win

Must read

Everything about the Kentucky Wildcats Baseball team has been exciting this season, and that trend continued with the team’s 5-4 defeat of NC State on Saturday afternoon in their first-ever College World Series game.

Kentucky found an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning before NC State managed to tie it up in the third. The Wildcats quickly answered with two runs of their own in the fourth, but three for NC State (two in the seventh, one in the ninth) gave Kentucky fans a real scare.

Ryan Nicholson came up clutch, tying the game up in the bottom of the ninth inning and paving the way for Mitchell Daly to send one deep in the bottom of the 10th inning to walk it off for the Wildcats.

Kentucky’s walk-off victory was not only the third in a row for this year’s CWS but also one of several tight finishes from the first handful of games. It was a momentum-boosting win that hopefully set the tone for what’s expected to be an intense week of baseball.

The win broke the school record for victories, too, with 46 and counting on the season.

Kentucky will receive a day off before they face the winner of Florida and Texas A&M on Monday evening. The game will once again be televised on ESPN, with the first pitch scheduled for 7 PM.
