EAST PEORIA (25News Now) – The Peoria Area World Affairs Council held a luncheon at the Par-A-Dice Hotel on Monday, with a very notable guest.
Hundreds attended this event, which was headlined by retired Gen. David Petraeus, a U.S. Army Vet and a former director of the CIA.
Veterans, students and history buffs came to learn about the General’s new book “Conflict: The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Ukraine.”
Petraeus discussed his background with historical conflicts and shared lessons on how to prepare for them in the future.
PAWAC Program Chair Don Samford says it’s important to have events like these so the general public can learn from world affairs leaders, like the general, in person.
“Central Illinois and middle America are just as interested [in world affairs as the rest of the world,” Samford said. “[This event] gives people a chance to see somebody in person rather than distant from a T.V. or radio as well.”
As program chair, he hopes the event motivates people to contact their elected leaders with ideas on how to improve our defense structure.
Samford says the best way to learn about PAWAC’s upcoming events is to become a member. To find out more information visit pawac.org.
