Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s commitment to transforming South Africa into a construction hub through increased infrastructure investment and support for Infrastructure South Africa.
“Infrastructure South Africa is the central authority for the coordination and planning of major construction projects,” Macpherson stated.
The Minister expressed his focus on igniting a surge of construction projects to stimulate economic growth and generate sustainable jobs, aligning with the President’s vision as articulated in his Opening of Parliament Address.
“I welcome the President’s endorsement of our department’s efforts to improve the lives of our people,” Macpherson said. “Economic growth and job creation through infrastructure investment are essential to bringing meaningful change to South Africans, an approach fully supported by the President.”
Macpherson aims to expand and enhance Infrastructure South Africa to ensure efficient execution of construction projects and to collaborate with other government departments for improved long-term planning and infrastructure investment.
The Minister also praised the President’s commitment to addressing the construction mafia’s impact on infrastructure investments, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal. He looks forward to working with the Minister of Police to re-establish the rule of law at construction sites, protecting infrastructure investments that are crucial for national development.
“Working together is key to building a South Africa that truly upholds the ideals of democracy,” Macpherson stated. “In the coming months, I invite all South Africans to join me in unleashing infrastructure development and building a better nation. Let’s build South Africa.”
