Popular gym destroyed in arson attack in Melbourne’s west

A popular gym in Melbourne’s west was destroyed when it was rammed by a car which was then set alight in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were called to Crew Fitness and Performance on Cranwell St, Braybrook about 3.30am when a Toyota Prado drove through the building’s roller door.

By the time crews arrived, the car had been set on fire and the two-storey building had gone up in flames.

“Firefighting crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control at 3.38am before it could spread inside the complex and to adjoining buildings,” a spokesperson from Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) said.

“The gymnasium has sustained severe damage.”

No one was injured in the blaze.

The exact circumstances surrounding the fire are unclear however it has been deemed as suspicious.

“A crime scene has been established and an investigation is underway,” police said.
