The World Swimming Championships is also where the versatile Boglarka Kapas – the 2019 World titleholder in the women’s 200m butterfly and Olympic bronze medallist in the women’s 800m freestyle at the Rio 2016 Games – is set to bring her career to a close. The 31-year-old first competed on the international scene in 2010 where she won two golds and a silver at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

In addition to winning the men’s 200m backstroke at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Kos has a World title at the distance from Fukuoka 2023, two wins at the 2024 European Championships, and tasted victory in Duna Arena by winning the Swimming World Cup in 2021 in his preferred distance in his home pool.

Hungary can count on short course specialist Szebasztian Szabo, who won three European Championship golds in 2021 and set the men’s 50m butterfly World Record that same year as a medal-winning favourite. Szabo was the last Hungarian to medal at the World Swimming Championships (25m) when he won bronze in the men’s 50m butterfly in Melbourne, Australia, in 2022.

All told, Hungary selected 18 men and 15 women to compete in the Duna Arena, where the Championships will run from 10 to 15 December.
