PARKERSBURG – The canvass of votes from last week’s general election did not change the outcome of any races, a representative of the Wood County Clerk’s Office said this morning.

That includes the race for Parkersburg City Council District 5, where independent William “Zak” Huffman led incumbent Councilman J.R. Carpenter, a Democrat, by three votes in final, unofficial results.

The final totals have not been posted at this time.

The Wood County Commission must wait 48 hours from the completion of the hand count of three randomly selected precincts to certify the results. That count ended at 5:38 p.m. Tuesday, a county official said.

Acting as the Board of Canvassing and Review, commissioners considered 42 absentee ballots received after Election Day and 402 provisional ballots. Of the absentees, five were not counted because they were postmarked after Election Day. There were 150 provisional ballots accepted.
