In an effort to boost tourism, Myanmar has introduced visa-free travel for citizens of eight countries. The main aim is to boost regional connectivity and attract more visitors. This will make it easier to explore the nation’s rich cultural heritage and magnificent landscapes. Officially known as the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the country is located in Southeast Asia.

Countries That Can Visit Myanmar Without Visa

Here is a list of countries that can visit Myanmar without a visa.

In 2022, Myanmar experienced an increase in the number of tourists as it welcomed a total of 233,487 visitors. This figure shows a significant 78% increase compared to 2021 – which also indicates a strong recovery following previous challenges.

China is the leading source of tourists to Myanmar – it is further followed by Thailand, Japan, and South Korea. In 2019, Myanmar welcomed 749,719 visitors from China, while Thailand contributed 273,157 tourists. Japan and South Korea also played significant roles, with 125,706 and 111,794 visitors, respectively.

More and more countries are now becoming open to boosting its tourism sector. Earlier, China announced visa-free entry to citizens from a total of nine countries. This new policy will come into effect from November 8. It states that citizens of these countries will be allowed entry in China for business, tourism, family visits, or transit for up to 15 days without a visa.

According to reports, China received 8.186 inbound foreign travellers – which is a significant 48.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Reports also suggest that around 4.9 million travellers who visited China, entered through the already existing visa-free programme.
