Morgan County motorcycle accident claims one life

MARIETTA – A passenger was killed and the driver of a motorcycle was seriously injured in an accident Saturday evening on State Route 60 in Morgan County, the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

A 1999 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide operated by Jeffery Roberts, 62, of McConnelsville was going north on Route 60 and struck a deer, the patrol said.

Penny Smith, 60, also of McConnelsville, a passenger, and Roberts were separated from the motorcycle, the patrol said. Smith and Roberts were taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital where Smith was pronounced dead, the patrol said.

Roberts sustained serious injuries, the patrol said.

The accident happened around 7:40 p.m. north of State Route 266, the patrol said. The accident remains under investigation, the patrol said.

Responding agencies included the Highway Patrol, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, M&M EMS, Beverly & Waterford Volunteer Fire Department and EMS and Need A Tow Towing.
