Surefit Fitness Studio warmed the hearts of children at Tawana Children’s Home by donating food and toiletries during the festive season.
The donation drive ran from November 12 to December 13, allowing time to gather as many contributions as possible.
Surefit supervising manager Tristan Smith shared how the project came to life.

“The owner of Surefit, Karla van Staden, approached me and asked me to think of a Christmas project,” said Smith.
“I’ve known about the Tawana Community NPO Children’s Home for a long time because I live on the same street as them.
“When she suggested a community outreach project tied to the gym, the children’s home immediately came to mind.”
Smith explained that he wanted the initiative to involve gym members and the broader Glen Marais community.
“At the start of November, I contacted Sylvia Mofokeng, the founder of Tawana, to learn more about their needs,” he said.
“She told me about their struggles with essentials like food, clothing, and toiletries. That’s when I thought we could focus on collecting donations for necessities and toys.”

The goal, Smith added, was not just to provide practical help but also to spread the Christmas spirit to the children.
Surefit owner Karla van Staden expressed her commitment to continuing the project.
“The first time I heard about the children’s home was on our gym’s opening day,” she said.
“We had extra food, and Tristan suggested donating it to Tawana. Since then, I’ve grown fond of this place, so when Tristan proposed this idea, I thought it was brilliant, and we went ahead with it.”
Sylvia Mofokeng, the founder of Tawana Children’s Home, expressed gratitude for the donations.
“The children are so thankful for this initiative by Surefit,” she said.
“We would truly appreciate more donations and sponsorships in the future.”
