Areas of smoke & haze will continue across Southern Nevada on Friday from California wildfires….
TODAY: Expect hazy sunshine in Las Vegas with high temperatures reaching around 96 degrees this afternoon. Wind will be out of the northeast, shifting out of the southeast later today up to 10 mph.
Air quality is ranked ‘moderate’ to ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ this morning. People with asthma or other respiratory issues should limit time outside until conditions improve which may not be for a while. More wildfire smoke is set to push into the area this afternoon and evening which may deteriorate air quality further. Pollen levels have increased slightly and are considered ‘moderate’ for weed and grass pollen with the most common pollens being ragweed, sage & wormwood in Clark County.
TONIGHT: Skies will be mostly clear this evening with areas of haze. Valley low temperatures will drop to around 74 degrees overnight. Winds will be out of the south up to 10 mph.
EXTENDED FORECAST: Smoky skies will be possible again Saturday morning and will slowly clear up tomorrow afternoon through Saturday night. Our next weather maker will start moving into the West on Sunday, increasing winds locally. Depending on the progression of the wildfire fight for the Bridge, Line & Airport fire — we may see smoke return again on Sunday with southwest winds picking up. Wind gusts will be around 30 mph Sunday afternoon and evening with stronger winds anticipated on Monday. Wind gusts at the start of the week will be around 30-40 mph with a slight chance of mountain showers (about 20% odds on Mt. Charleston). The bulk of the wet weather will be across Northern Nevada and Arizona. Moisture from Tropical Storm Ileana may also surge across the area, resulting in increased storm chances in Arizona this weekend as well.
We’ll see a noticeable drop in temperatures at the start of the work week with valley highs falling 10-15 degrees. Temperatures will max out in the low to mid 80s on Monday in Las Vegas & Henderson followed by another round of stormy weather midweek. Breezes increase again on Wednesday with mainly mountain shower chances possible on Wednesday and Thursday (20% odds). Valley highs will linger in the 80s through the rest of the week.
Beyond the 7-day it appears valley temperatures will climb back up to the low 90s by NEXT weekend.
