John Draper Finnern, 81, died Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at home in Hollis, NH. He was born on June 25, 1942, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of the late Arnold and Virginia (Draper) Finnern.
He was the husband of Bette (Shatz) Finnern, married in May 1987 in Hudson, NH.
John graduated from Darien High School, CT, and Fairleigh Dickenson University, NJ.
John served in the U.S. Navy (U.S.S. Forrestal) from 1962-1965.
He was employed as a systems engineer at Bell Labs, Avco, and Sanders/BAE Systems, where he retired.
John’s hobbies included antique radios, race cars, woodworking, home renovation, and motorcycles. He especially enjoyed working on and riding his 1996 Harley Davidson and 1963 Vespa motor scooter.
Survivors include: his wife, Bette Finnern, and their sons, Joseph and Steven and his wife, Melanie Finnern. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Juliette and Reid Finnern, his brother-in-law, Alan, and his wife Carol Sugerman, his nephews, Jacob Sugerman and Alex Magyar, and his friend, Br. Leo Labbe, SC, along with many other dear friends.
SERVICES: Visitation will be held on Monday June 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua, NH. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:30 AM at Davis Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM, at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303.
Family and friends are invited to attend. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution in John’s memory may do so to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua or Wounded Warrior Project.
