In a major step toward sustainable transportation, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has received the green light to build e-workshops and e-charging stations across the state. This ambitious Rs 128-crore initiative is a significant push toward promoting green mobility in the region.
The project, which had been in the pipeline for some time, gained momentum after the Finance Department cleared it for implementation. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has already released Rs 35 crore for the first phase, kickstarting the development process.
Driving the Electric Revolution
Supported by NABARD, the initiative aims to establish cutting-edge infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs), including charging stations and advanced workshops. While the Himachal government will contribute 10% of the project cost, the remaining 90% will be financed through a loan from NABARD.
This move is part of a larger strategy by the state government to foster environmental sustainability by transitioning from traditional vehicles to EVs. The state is not only focusing on e-buses but also encouraging the adoption of e-taxis, signaling a comprehensive approach to green mobility.
Enhanced Efficiency and Savings
HRTC’s e-workshops will significantly reduce dependency on external agencies for the maintenance of electric buses once current contracts lapse. These in-house facilities will ensure smoother operations and lead to substantial cost savings over time.
A Green Future for Himachal Pradesh
With the construction of these e-workshops and charging stations, Himachal Pradesh is set to create a robust infrastructure that supports its green goals. This initiative will not only enhance the state’s mobility framework but also contribute to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
By investing in green technology and infrastructure, Himachal Pradesh is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable transportation, paving the way for a cleaner, greener future.
