Himachal adopts environmentally friendly road construction with FDR Technology – HIMACHAL HEADLINES

Must read

In a significant step toward sustainable infrastructure, Himachal Pradesh is embracing Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology for road building. Already successful in states like Uttar Pradesh, this innovative approach promises cost-effective and eco-friendly roads across the region. The initial phase involves constructing 113 roads throughout the state, with the pioneering project located in the Ghumarwin subdivision of Bilaspur.

The green initiative kicks off with the Ket-Gahar link road in Ghumarwin. Construction began on Thursday, with an estimated budget of approximately ₹5.5 crores allocated for the seven-kilometer stretch. FDR technology, known for its efficiency and environmental benefits, aims to revolutionize road construction in Himachal Pradesh.

FDR technology creates a robust, cemented, and stable road layer by reusing materials from existing roads, including ballast. These materials are mixed with cement and additives, reducing costs and minimizing environmental impact by avoiding the need for new raw materials and extensive transportation. The durability and superior ride quality of roads built using FDR technology have been proven in various foreign countries.

In addition to the Ket-Gahar link road, the Targhel-Tadaun-Ladrour link road will also adopt FDR technology. This method not only contributes to environmental conservation but also reduces mining in ravines. Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani emphasized the dual benefits of FDR technology: economic efficiency and environmental protection. FDR technology is projected to save up to 80% of the road construction budget.
