As we look ahead to the coming week, we can expect more surprises in the twists and turns in the world of entertainment.
Below are stories that made headlines this week:
I now understand the essence of MPs needing sirens, says A Plus
Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, A Plus, has changed his mind about MPs using sirens to navigate traffic and carry out their duties efficiently.
In an interview on Accra-based Joy FM, he said, “It is not an easy task at all. Today, for instance, I was with the President in my constituency. The Ahmadiyya Muslim community had their annual convention. You know it’s in my constituency; that’s where they have it-in Gomoa Pomadze. I had to be at the convention and in Parliament at the same time.
I’m excited about Ghana’s future – Michael Blankson on Mahama’s inauguration
US-based Ghanaian actor and comedian, Michael Blackson, has expressed optimism regarding the tenure of Ghana’s newly inaugurated President, John Dramani Mahama.
The entertainer, widely known for his humour and philanthropy, expressed his confidence in the leadership of Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to revive and improve the future of Ghana.
This comes on the heels of a challenging year for Blackson, who had publicly expressed disappointment with Ghana’s financial governance in September 2024. At the time, Ghana faced economic difficulties, resulting in its default on Eurobond payments.
Blackson, who had invested in Ghana’s Eurobonds, disclosed that the financial setbacks directly impacted his philanthropic initiative, the Michael Blackson Academy. Located in Agona Nsaba in the Central Region of Ghana, the academy offers free education to underserved children.
Fiifi Coleman launches Private Actors Welfare Scheme to cater for aged
Ghanaian actor and producer Fiifi Coleman, has voiced his opinions about the public calls for assistance for elderly actors, saying that the problem is more than just a crisis.
Fiifi Coleman Productions launched the Private Actors Welfare Scheme, an insurance coverage, at the Marriott Hotel, Airport City in Accra on Saturday, 4 January.
“These veterans dedicated their lives to the entertainment industry, bringing joy and excitement to countless fans, but they were often left to struggle in their old age,” the actor said.
According to Fiifi Coleman, “This isn’t just a crisis but a failed work. A failure of an industry to protect its own. A failure of a community to ensure the hands that feed them and built our dreams don’t crumble in despair,” he said.
Describing veterans as trailblazers, he said that it was rather unfortunate they were left at the mercy of the public in their most vulnerable states due to the lack of a sustainable system to support them.
Amerado and Medikal clash on X
The Ghanaian music scene has been thrown into disarray following a heated online feud between rappers Amerado and Medikal.
The two artists took to X, formerly Twitter, to exchange jabs, with the spat centring on claims of popularity, financial transparency, and personal controversies.
The feud took a dramatic turn when Amerado accused Medikal of engaging in fraudulent activities, suggesting that such dealings were the source of his wealth and influence.
He further implied that Medikal used this wealth to chase clout and criticised him for allegedly cancelling a New York show due to lack of attendance.
