Embrace explained

Peter Wright shared what Luke Humphries said at the end of their match, telling talkSPORT: “Yeah he was just saying that the media get carried away with silly comments.

“He said that he didn’t say the things that it actually came across like.

“I said exactly the same, that is just the way it goes some time. He wished me all the best.

“He’s a lovely guy, a real family guy and I wish him all the best moving forward.

“He’s been a fantastic world champion, he’s done everything for the PDC and for the sport.

“He goes all around the world doing interviews and stuff like Luke Littler has. They’ve been spreading the game fantastically.”

‘No animosity to Luke’

Peter Wright put the feud between him and Luke Humphries to bed after booking his place in the quarter-final.

The Scot had plenty to say on his chances of beating the world No1 in the build-up to the game and Humphries said he would be left with “egg on his face”.

Wright said after his win: “There was no mind games, everyone has their own opinion on who is going to do well at this tournament.

“I’ve watched the interviews, they are all fun.

“It is down to you lot [the media] asking the silly questions and then we give silly answers.

“He just replied to the questions that were asked, that is all.

“No animosity to Luke at all.”

‘Would’ve retained his title’

Peter Wright backed up his pre-match fighting talk with a shock win over Luke Humphries, with Snakebite claiming only he could stop Cool Hand from being world champion again.

Explaining his self-belief and theory, Wright said: “I felt confident playing Luke over the shorter distance. If I didn’t beat him in this round here, he would have retained his title.

“I don’t think any other player would have got close to him over a longer distance.

“This year he’s getting wins and getting through the big games with 98, 99, something like that. I thought if he turns up and throws 98, I’ve got a chance.

“If he turned up like the Luke of last year, he would have bashed me off the board.”

‘Not giving up’

Peter Wright shocked the darts world with a surprise 4-1 win over reigning champion Luke Humphries last night.

It has been a nightmare year for Snakebite from regular early exists to heavy defeats against the best.

But after rolling back the years at Ally Pally, he said: “I’ve sat in the Premier League getting battered by these guys and wondering why I’m here, why they picked me and stuff like that.

“I don’t seem to perform for the crowd there. It’s really strange and annoying.

“I was in tears last year and Michael van Gerwen said, ‘you don’t want to do it anymore, do you?’

“I said, ‘I don’t know, maybe I don’t, maybe I do, but I’m not going to give up’. And that’s the main thing.”

Good morning darts fans!

Ready for another bumper day of action?

We’re just getting our breath back after an intense day of arrows at Ally Pally on Sunday.

The shock of the night came right at the end as reigning world champion Luke Humphries was unceremoniously dumped out of the tournament by former two-time champ Peter Wright.

The Scot thrashed Humphries 4-1 to reach the quarter-final, where he will play either Stephen Bunting or Luke Woodhouse.

Elsewhere, Callan Rydz upset the apple cart as he beat Dimintri van den Bergh 4-0 while Gerwyn Price also reached the next round.
