POLOKWANE – Lebo Kutumela, a 28-year-old entrepreneur has turned her passion into a lifelong thriving business by opening her own salon, Lebo Braids Specialist.
Lebo is a nail tech, hairdresser and distributes her homemade hair food and oil spray called Lebo Hair Volume, which is made with natural herbs.
Lebo co-founded the products during a stint in a salon and dealing with different hair challenges and saw an opportunity to manufacture her own hair growth conditioner.
“The vision was to be a successful, young businesswoman however, after learning about the unemployment rate in South Africa, the vision became more centered around creating job opportunities. I was motivated to create a micro-stream of employment after I had no luck in finding employment myself that will not only benefit me, but create employment for other people,” said Kutumela.
She told the Polokwane Review-Observer that her products show results within a short period of use.
“Most people use my products on their hairline after having tight hairstyles such as braids, ponytails and artificial locs to name a few.”
Lebo has faced many challenges, from finding start-up money, getting the right space to run her salon as well as hiring and keeping reliable staff.
“I added more services to my salon by starting hairdressing and nail training classes to avoid betrayal that I experienced in the past,” she said.
Lebo highlighted that her goal is to see her products in major retailers in South Africa and she also encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to stop complaining and blaming others.
“Let us start standing up for ourselves and create job opportunities because entrepreneurship is the way to go so that our children can live in a better generation.”
