Bengaluru’s proposed 250m tall skydeck

Bengaluru: In a big boost to the city’s infrastructure, the Karnataka government on Thursday cleared Bengaluru Skydeck project to be build at a cost of Rs 500 crore. The deck, once built, will provide a 360 degree view of the IT-hub. The official Cabinet Note stated that Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) identified three sites for the construction of Sky-deck: Hemmigepura (near Nice Road), Bengaluru University, Jnanabharati and Kommaghatta (near Nice Road).

Then, in a meeting chaired by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on 17-07-2024, it was decided that land at Hemmigepura (Near Nice Road) has good connectivity from Tumkur, Kanakapura, Mysore and Hosur roads through Nice Road.

Also, the note stated, as it is situated in suburban area, there is less chance of traffic congestion during the proposed construction. “Further, Bengaluru can be viewed here along with lush green Turahalli forest. Accordingly, it was finally decided in the meeting that Hemmigepura (Nice Road Clover Leaf) land is suitable for the construction of 250 meter high Sky-deck,” it added.

Who Will Fund The Project

In the meeting, it was discussed whether the proposed project will be constructed on PPP model or by BBMP by utilizing its own funds. The attendees suggested that since it is a prestigious project and if it is built by the Government/Corporation by complete funding, it will become pride of the Government.

They said it will be a tourist place and revenue can be expected from commercial activities. Accordingly, it was decided to build the Sky-deck by funding complete by the Government/BBMP.

State Cabinet’s Other Decision

Karnataka cabinet has also decided to construct an underground tunnel from Hebbal to silk board junction at an estimated cost of Rs 12, 690 crore.

Apart from this, the state government will be building 52 new Indira canteens in Bengaluru and 592 Anganavaadis will also be opened for an estimated cost of around 50 crore.
