Yahoo Sports has hired a bevy of gold medalists to lead its Olympics coverage.

The ex-gold medalists Felix, Shawn Johnson East, Kerri Walsh Jennings, Missy Franklin, and former silver medalist Katie Hoff will be broadcasters for the company.

On Monday, Yahoo Sports chief Ryan Spoon shared the outlet’s reasoning for their latest hires.

“These are the top of the list in terms of skill, personality, results, knowledge, interest,” Spoon said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“They’ve all done this at the highest level with absolute success, I think they are all multi-time Olympians, so what’s it mean to do that abroad?

“What’s it mean on these different scales and these different personalities?”

Each of the correspondents will have tasks as Felix will cover track and field events, Walsh Jennings will provide analysis for beach volleyball, Franklin and Hoff will commentate the swimming events, and Johnson East will cover gymnastics events for Yahoo.

The company announced the hire of Johnson East in April.

Yahoo Sports has also struck a partnership deal with USA Swimming ahead of the trials and games.

The move will give Yahoo exclusive rights to distribute content for the business.

The Yahoo Sports website will have a landing page for USA Swimming.

The organization will also lean on NBC Sports – the exclusive broadcast partner of the Olympics.

“Obviously, we start with trying to serve the most fans possible, and you do that through scale,” Spoon said. We have relationships with all of them. We aim to create the best content across written analysis, deliver the results, provide personality, video, do that on social.

“But we also acknowledge that we cannot personally — whether we are the best in the world or not — we can’t be comprehensive there ourselves, and so we look at partners who help us in that case.”
