Air travel round-up: Air India increases flights to Nairobi

From March 30, Air India will offer a fourth weekly flight from Delhi to Nairobi, Kenya. 

The airline currently operates three weekly return flights between Delhi and Nairobi on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  

From March 30, the carrier will add an additional return flight to the route on Sundays. 

Lufthansa Allegris available to more destinations 

Lufthansa has announced that travellers can now book its Allegris cabin for more destinations. 

Starting March 30, the new long-haul cabin will be available on flights from Munich to San Diego, Bengaluru, San Francisco, Chicago, and Shanghai. Service to New York-Newark will begin on April 15, while flights to Charlotte will feature the Allegris cabin from August. 

Lufthansa’s Allegris cabins are already available on its Cape Town route, as reported by Travel News

Emirates add third daily flight to Rome 

From June 1, Emirates will reintroduce its third daily flight between Dubai and Rome. The additional flight will add over 2 359 weekly seats to the route. 

The new flight EK099 will depart Dubai at 03h30, arriving in Rome at 07h40. The return flight EK100 will leave Rome at 11h30 and land back in Dubai at 19h20. 

Turkish ramps up Sydney service 

Less than three months after commencing its inaugural Sydney-Istanbul service, Turkish Airlines will ramp up to daily services from January 12, 2026. 

The airline will gradually expand its services in 2025, increasing from four to five flights per week in mid-June and to six per week by the end of October. 

Virgin Atlantic and WestJet expand codeshare 

Virgin Atlantic and WestJet have announced an expanded codeshare agreement set to launch on March 30, coinciding with Virgin Atlantic’s new route between London Heathrow and Toronto Pearson International Airport. 

The partnership will offer seamless connections for travellers from the UK to 13 Canadian cities, including Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Ottawa.  

The two airlines will also co-locate at Toronto Pearson’s Terminal 3, streamlining transfers without the need for baggage re-checking. 

Flights went on sale on February 17, with customers able to book a single ticket for both airlines.  

A loyalty programme integration between Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and WestJet Rewards is expected later in the year. 

Brussels inaugurates The View lounge 

Brussels Airport has officially inaugurated ‘The View,’ a new 2 000sqm business lounge at Pier B for non-Schengen flights, reports aviation24.be

Opened on February 18, the lounge offers premium comfort for long-haul travellers, featuring a 360-degree tarmac view, private sleeping cabins with showers and a bar. 

Following the partial opening in June 2024, the lounge is now fully operational, accommodating up to 400 passengers.
