One of the most famous players in history at the start of the world’s biggest poker tournament: how’s that for a launch?
Word from the privileged few who have seen all the episodes before anyone else: the new season of Inside the Mind of a Pro, which began broadcasting on our YouTube channel this Monday, not only contains the best episode in the history of the series. It also contains the second best episode in the series’ history. And also the third. And maybe even the fourth…
Yes, yes, we know what you’re thinking: this is just us hyping up the show, as is our job, and we’re exaggerating as usual. OK: we don’t blame you if you find the above message lacking in subtlety. But just wait and see… and come back in a few weeks before making your opinion. When you do, you’ll probably definitely realise that our enthusiasm wasn’t fake.
What can we say about this new season, while obviously avoiding spoilers? It’s unique, in more ways than one. When we were preparing it, in the spring of 2024, we said to ourselves: look, we’re celebrating the tenth anniversary of our first Las Vegas season. Before 2014, Inside the Mind of a Pro had sanded the European Poker Tour to the bone, visited the Riviera for the Partouche Poker Tour, and explored the World Poker Tour in Vienna and Marrakech. But never Las Vegas, and even less the World Series of Poker. At the time, it was the French star Patrick Bruel himself who launched our first season in the heart of Sin City, with episodes that have become cult favourites. After that, we never missed another edition of the WSOP.
Ten years of filming in Vegas: we had to mark the occasion. We found two ways of doing so. First, by inviting Gus Hansen to kick off the season. We’ve often said it: with his best-selling book Every Hand Revealed, published in 2007, the Dane was one of the major inspirations for the series. Asking our latest recruit to play in front of our cameras was therefore an obvious choice, and a way of bringing the series full circle.
And which WSOP 2024 tournament will Gus be treating us with? How about the Main Event? Yes, that’s right, the $10,000 “Big One”. The biggest tournament in the world. The oldest too – 55 years old – and certainly the most prestigious. It’s quite a gift that the WSOP organisers have given us… because it’s not easy to get permission to film the best poker tournament of the year, far from it. But we’d like to make it clear: the protagonists of this new season have done justice to the privilege we’ve been granted…
One last thing before you press ‘Play’: at least one new episode will go online every week. The most important words in that sentence being ‘at least’, we strongly advise you to turn on notifications on YouTube, to keep an eye on Winamax’s social networks, and to check back regularly on our home page. So you don’t miss out on an episode that drops unexpectedly in the middle of the week, for example…
