Today on Sky Sports Racing: Sussex National headlines Plumpton card on Monday with Wolverhampton also live

Must read

We have action from Plumpton and Wolverhampton on Monday, with the Sussex National taking centre stage, live on Sky Sports Racing…

3.45 Plumpton – Dom of Mary, Morfee and Vision De Maine feature in Sussex National

Last year’s renewal of the BetGoodwin Sussex National Handicap Chase went the way of the David Bridgwater-trained Dom Of Mary who was steered to victory by Caolin Quinn. This year he carries 7lb more and is without the 3lb allowance under Brendan Powell, meaning he is 10lb worse off than for last year’s race. This will be his second run after wind surgery so he could bounce back.

Morfee has form figure of 2,1,2,1 and PU so must be respected over the marathon distance of 3m 4.5f. It is somewhat of a course specialist’s track and with a solid last run under his belt he should go well. Vision De Maine was behind him that day and lines up again. He is more lightly raced than some in here so could still improve.

4.15 Plumpton – An Breadan Feasa goes over fences

An Breadan Feasa is set to make his chase debut in the BetGoodwin Master Trainer Chris Gordon Handicap Chase. He has been thrown into the deep end on a number of occasions over hurdles and run with plenty of credit in defeat, so this switch looks very interesting as he is related to the talented chaser Kalashnikov.

Non Stop made a great start to the season when striking here in November over the smaller obstacles. He has competed in some competitive handicap hurdles since and returns to chasing where he is yet to get his head in front.

5.00 Wolverhampton – Megaphone aiming to make a noise

Megaphone won on stable debut for George Boughey having once previously raced for Roger Varian behind Ancient Truth in a Newmarket maiden. The form of his Kempton win looks decent too with the second subsequently winning. He sets a good standard in a weak looking Best Racing Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Handicap.

Queenofdestruction has been somewhat hitting the proverbial crossbar in her last two starts. The filly has plenty of speed and has done too much too soon in four starts so far. She will be the main pace angle in this.

Jack Morland’s debutant Snow Creek made a good start to life when fourth at Southwell, going off at 9/2. He looks set to improve on that and should be in the first three.

Best of the rest

2.45 Plumpton

Theonlywayiswessex will be attempting to double up over the course and distance in the Howden Insurance Brokers Novices’ Handicap Chase. He has not been seen since running out a very comfortable winner here at the start of December but if he returns in the same form he will be a threat to all off top weight.

3.15 Plumpton

Confinetic only has the three starts under his belt but has improved with each run and looks as though a step up in trip is within his compass, having stayed on strongly to beat a subsequent scorer here last time out.

Jeu d’Opale has not been seen on a racecourse since 2022 but has an interesting profile and, although he will probably need this, he could prove to be a useful recruit for Venetia Williams’ yard.
