LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – 27 of the world’s best masons competed in the 23rd annual Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 World Championship Wednesday morning.

The event brings together masons from all over the world, with more international competitors this year than ever before.

“We’ve got a handful out of Canada, we’ve got some out of the UK. Even some out of Australia,” a representative of the event told FOX5. “We think it’s good for the industry as a whole, globally.”

The winner receives a new truck, a utility vehicle, a top-of-the-line mixer and cash.

The main event was preceded by several others, including a skills competition involving apprentices. One of the only women competing in the event, Hannah Miller, had some extra motivation, as her dad told FOX5.

“About two years ago, she promised her grandpa, my dad, that she’d win this competition and bring it home for him. Last December, he passed away,” Larry Miller said tearfully. “We’re very proud.”

World of Concrete continues through Thursday.
