Indian Railways has firmly denied reports circulating in certain media outlets suggesting that passengers could travel free during the Maha Kumbh Mela. Describing the claims as “baseless and misleading,” a statement from the railways emphasizes that traveling without a valid ticket remains strictly prohibited and punishable by law.
Preparations are in place to accommodate the surge in passengers expected at the event. According to the railways, special holding areas, additional ticket counters, and necessary facilities are being established to manage this influx. This commitment includes eliminating 21 level-crossing gates in Prayagraj to facilitate smoother traffic, as part of a Rs 450 crore infrastructure overhaul, with most projects set to be completed by December.
Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh government is enhancing security measures for the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela. In a bid to ensure crowd control, 130 horses, including American Balm Blood and local breeds, will be employed. Inspector Prem Babu of the Kumbh Mela mounted police notes that these horses undergo six months of rigorous training, providing effective crowd management during the event.
