A fire that broke out at Linton’s Corner Shopping Centre this afternoon has been extinguished, with no injuries or fatalities reported.
Ward Councillor Malcolm De Klerk said the incident occurred around noon, causing damage to the Pick ‘n Pay Clothing store’s roof.
He confirmed that the roof of the clothing store caught fire, and initial investigations suggest that the blaze was ignited by a solar panel that caught alight.
“At this stage, we believe the solar panel caught fire, which then spread to the roofing and ceiling,” De Klerk explained.
He said emergency services acted swiftly to contain the fire, and no injuries were reported.
“The store and surrounding stores were evacuated as per emergency protocols,” he said, adding that no nearby buildings or residences were at risk.
“The fire is extinguished and the situation is under control,” he confirmed.
