Eelis Parssinen Proves PLO Dominance With $100k Title At Triton Super High Roller Poker Series

Eelis Parssinen scored $2.27 million for taking down the $100,000 buy-in pot-limit Omaha event at Triton Monte Carlo.

The Finnish pro’s career earnings now stand close to $9.4 million, the majority of which has come in PLO events, including six of his seven tournament wins and WSOP bracelet.

Parssinen was already on top of the PLO money list, with a small lead over American Dylan Weisman. Weisman bubbled the tournament, however, and Parssinen’s career-best score has now put him well in front of the pack with more than $6.8 million.

Parssinen continued a strong run by players from Finland at Triton series, which included Poker Hall of Famer Patrik Antonius picking up a career-high $5.1 million in the $200,000 Invitational event. Other top performing Finns included Joni Jouhkimainen and Ossi Ketola.

“We have a pretty strong community, we talk a lot of poker. That’s the best way to improve in this game,” said Parssinen. “These are tough, tough weeks. These guys are playing everything 12 hours a day. Have to respect these guys, grinding their ass off. Obviously it feels surreal. Playing here against the best players, with my best friends, I can’t describe it.”

The two-day tournament saw the top 14 players make the money from a field of 87 entries that sent the prize pool up to $8.7 million. The min-cash was worth $166,000, and the players that made the money before the final table included Haralabos Voulgaris (8th), Jonas Kronwitter (9th), Jason Koon (10th), Li Ton (11th), Lautaro Guerra (12th), Sam Greenwood (13th), and Artur Martirosian (14th).

Parssinen held the chip lead when card got into the air at the final table. Mads Amot was the first to fall in seventh place, and then Alex Foxen finished his strong series in Monaco with an exit in sixth place for $518,000. Foxen cashed four times in Monte Carlo overall, including a win in the $50,000 no-limit event for $1,470,000.

The run of big names sent to the rail continued as Phil Ivey busted in fifth place for $667,000, and Sean Winter was sent packing in fourth place for $836,000. Parssinen kept moving to the top by taking out Espen Myrmo in third place, and that put him up top with a 3:2 advantage over Daniel Dvoress before the start of heads-up play.

Parssinen quickly pushed his advantage and ground down Dvoress to just eight big blinds twice, but he doubled up both times it happened to keep the tournament going. The third time was not the charm when Dvoress called all in with QJ104 against the AK74 held by Parssinen. The final board read J74AA, and Parssinen won the hand and the tournament as his friends celebrated around him.

Dvoress took home $1,563,000 in second place, and the talented high-stakes player from Canada now holds career earnings worth more than $36.7 million.
