After Sean Perry dominated the action across Day 1 of No Gamble No Future’s Cash of the Titans II, he and the rest of the players returned to the PokerGO Studio for Day 2 play. As the blinds increased to the $200/$400 ($400) level, stacks grew shorter and more than one player was in need of a spin up. Shawn Madden and Justin Young started Day 2 as the only players yet to utilize their $100,000 add-on.
While Perry started Day 2 with the boss stack, there was still plenty of play left for one of the other players to make a run at the biggest-winner bonus prize.
Robl hits at the wrong time
As Perry lamented his difficulty in meeting suitable women to date – “I’m going to a barre class Monday to meet a girl,” – Stanley Choi raised to $1,500 with . Mike Volfson called in the small blind with before Andrew Robl, perhaps not overly interested in hearing about Perry’s dating life, said, “Too much talking, let’s play some big pots,” and raised to $9,000 from the big blind with .
Madden, perhaps overly interested in hearing about Perry’s dating life, asked, “Is it like a date?”
“No, not at all,” Perry responded. “She has a boyfriend.”
“Not quite a date,” chimed Kristen Foxen.
“It’s a good class. And we have a lot of DMs, there’s hope,” said Perry.
Choi, meanwhile, made the call with his pocket pair and, after Volfson fled the scene, proceeded to flop quads on the . Undeterred by the paired board, Robl continued for $5,000 and Choi put in the unorthodox min-raise to $10,000 with all of the eights in the deck.
“No one does this – who does this?” asked Brent Hanks from the commentary booth.
Somehow, Choi knew his man to a T and watched on as Robl sent another $5,000 in his direction with a call. The turn brought in Robl’s no-good straight draw and he checked the action over to Choi, who decided now was the time to get sneaky with a check-back. Whether Robl would have called a bet on the turn is up for debate, but the point became entirely moot on the river. Having made his runner-runner straight, Robl fired out $35,000 into the $39,000 in the middle.
After expressing his desire to play big pots, Robl got his wish as Choi raised to $90,000. As he contemplated his decision, Robl let out a chuckle. “You have jacks, Stanley?” he asked. Choi offered no answer. Eventually, after burning through several time banks, Robl came to the right decision and pitched his cards back to the dealer.
Obviously, it’s a brutal beat for Robl – the pain of going runner-runner in a spot where you’re drawing dead from jump street needs no explanation – but consider also the fact that Volfson folded preflop and the runout rises to a whole new level of cooler.
