The selection process began in September with public nominations, which were then narrowed down to eight outstanding finalists: Kristen Bicknell Foxen, Jeanne David, Liv Boeree, Jamie Kerstetter, Kara Scott, Rebecca McAdam Willetts, Annette Obrestad, and Jennifer Shahade. From this impressive group, Foxen and David were chosen as the final two through votes from current WiPHoF members and a panel of poker media experts.
Founded in 2008, the WiPHoF celebrates the achievements and influence of women in the poker community. David and Foxen will join the ranks of the Hall of Fame, becoming the 26th and 27th members.
Kristen Bicknell Foxen: A Poker Powerhouse
Kristen Foxen, originally from Canada, burst onto the poker scene in 2006 during her freshman year of college. She made quite the entrance, finishing 13th in a $230 NLHE event at the 4th Annual Turning Stone Poker Classic and earning $18,053. Since then, her poker journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. She’s amassed over $8 Million in career earnings, making her one of the top female players in the game. And just this October, she won her fifth WSOP bracelet in the Online Event #19: $1,000 NLH 6-Max – a feat that extended her record as the most decorated female player in WSOP history.
Foxen has had another stellar year in 2024, with a highlight victory in the PGT $10,100 NLHE Event #5, where she took down the title after a heads-up battle against poker legend Daniel Negreanu. She also made several final tables in major events, including the PGT Last Chance #2, PGT Kickoff Event #3, PGT PokerGO Cup Event #4 and #5, and PGT Poker Masters Event #7. From online prodigy (three-time Supernova Elite!) to live tournament crusher, Foxen’s dominance knows no bounds. Her 13th-place finish in the 2024 WSOP Main Event for $600,000 is just the latest in a long line of incredible achievements.
Her first WSOP bracelet came in the 2013 $1,000 NLHE Ladies Championship, followed by her second in the $1,500 NLHE Bounty in 2016. Since then, she’s added three more online bracelets, winning titles across WSOP’s international and U.S. platforms and cementing her reputation as a dominant force in both live and online poker.
Jeanne David: A Champion for Players
Jeanne David, a Las Vegas native and a member of PokerOrg’s Player Advisory Board, is a respected figure in the poker community. She’s known for her dedication to player welfare and responsible gaming. With a Master’s degree in Social Work focused on addiction, David served as the Responsible Gaming Manager at PokerStars, where she actively worked to support players’ well-being.
David’s influence goes beyond her work with individual players. She’s been a key advocate for the legalization and regulation of online poker in the U.S. and Europe. Her efforts have been instrumental in advancing online poker in states like Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Nevada, contributing to the wider acceptance of online gaming.
David’s poker journey began in 2007 when she cashed in the Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza II. Since then, she’s consistently made her mark with numerous final table appearances, with her biggest cash being $12,074 for an 18th-place finish in the 2007 WSOP $1,000 Seniors NLHE World Championship.
In 2024 alone, she’s achieved 19 final table finishes and four titles, mostly in The Orleans Hotel & Casino Recurring Tournaments Series. These successes have brought David’s total live earnings to over $200,000!
Starla Brodie: A True Pioneer
Joining Foxen and David is the late Starla Brodie, who will be honoured posthumously as the first-ever Pioneer Inductee. Brodie was the first woman to win an open-field WSOP event, teaming up with Doyle Brunson to take down the 1979 Mixed Doubles Event. In 1995, she earned her second bracelet in the Women’s Seven Card Stud tournament. The Pioneer Inductee title celebrates players who paved the way for women at the highest levels of the game.
These three incredible women will be celebrated on December 11 at the Women in Poker Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
