Alicia set to topline drama movie
Oscar winner Alicia Vikander will headline the cast for the upcoming drama film The Last Day. To be directed by Rachel Rose in her feature debut, the movie will also star Victoria Pedretti and Wagner Moura in pivotal roles, reported entertainment news outlet Variety. The story is about a writer and mother who confronts her lack of creative purpose and embarks on a journey of rediscovering herself after encountering figures from her past. Vikander won an Oscar for best supporting actress for her performance in The Danish Girl and is also known for starring in films such as Ex Machina, Anna Karenina, A Royal Affair, Testament of Youth, Tomb Raider and The Green Knight. Her upcoming projects include the Korean thriller Hope and Oliver Assayas’ The Wizard of the Kremlin.
The Running Man amps up on star power with Michael, Emilia
Juno star Michael Cera and Emilia Jones of CODA fame have boarded the cast of filmmaker Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is based on the novel by Stephen King. It is fronted by Twisters star Glen Powell. The novel follows the story of a desperate man named Ben Richards who joins the most popular show called The Running Man to arrange money for the treatment of his sick daughter. The show involves teams of killers hunting down contestants. Previously, Hollywood veteran Arnold Schwarzenegger starred as the lead in the 1987 sci-fi action film of the same name.
Hunter walks onto the sets of a mystery thriller series
Actor Hunter Parrish, best known for his work in Weeds and It’s Complicated, will star in a recurring role in the Prime Video series Scarpetta. The actor joins previously announced cast members Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, reported Variety. An adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels, according to the logline, Scarpetta “follows Kay Scarpetta (Kidman), the chief medical examiner, as she returns to Virginia and resumes her former position with complex relationships, both personal and professional – including her sister Dorothy (Curtis), with plenty of grudges and secrets to uncover.” Parrish will recur as the younger version of Benton Wesley, presumably in flashbacks. Benton is an FBI profiler who strikes up a romance with Kay in the books.
‘Earl’ Hugh boards spy thriller
Actor Hugh Bonneville, best known for playing Earl of Grantham Robert Crawley in Downton Abbey, will guest star in the upcoming espionage political thriller series The Agency. Award-winning filmmaker Joe Wright will direct the first two episodes of the 10-part series, penned by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, reported Variety. Bonneville will essay the role of James Richardson, described as “a British agent who has a long-standing history with Martian”. Based on the French show Le Bureau des Legendes, The Agency will follow Martian (Fassbender), a covert CIA agent, ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station.
