Bengaluru’s Tech Parks Flooded: Employees Disrupted as Infrastructure Crumbles | Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: Six centimetres of rain over the course of the day in Bengaluru typically wouldn’t raise any alarm, but on Tuesday, it caused significant disruption. The city’s civic infrastructure struggled to cope, throwing daily life into disarray.
Tech hubs, including Manyata Tech Park in the northern part of the city, became impassable as rainwater flooded the area.Employees found themselves wading through knee-deep water, some resorting to walking barefoot to escape the deluge. Frustrated techies took to social media, sharing images and videos of inundated roads within the park, home to several Fortune-500 companies.
Stranded workers voiced their discontent, criticising the govt for failing to address deteriorating infrastructure while promoting ‘Brand Bengaluru’. Ritesh R, a data analyst, remarked, “A tech park getting inundated highlights a serious issue. We’ve seen this for years, and nothing has changed.”
Online reactions were swift, with Chethan W dubbing the situation a “waterclass infrastructure”. Others drew parallels between Gurugram and Bengaluru, both facing similar challenges. Sajjan S quipped, “Gurugram and Bengaluru are like real brothers — posh IT parks and high-rises, but when it rains, lakes appear within hours.”
Amid the jokes about searching for ferries or terming the tech zone a ‘waterpark’, BJP MLA and deputy leader of the opposition Arvind Bellad slammed the govt: “The whole of #Bengaluru is drowning after just one day of rain! Roads in Manyata Tech Park and beyond are submerged, with employees unable to reach their workplaces and businesses facing massive disruptions. Industries are suffering due to the city’s crumbling infrastructure, which is the govt’s prime responsibility. Is this the ‘Brand Bengaluru’ the @siddaramaiah-led @INCKarnataka govt keeps boasting about? If the city can’t withstand a single day of rain, where’s the planning, accountability, and commitment to its citizens?”
