Patrick Bueno Triumphs In World Series of Poker Europe €2,000 Eight-Game Mix

France’s Patrick Bueno first cashed at the World Series of Poker back in 2001, finishing 36th in that year’s main event for a $30,000 payday. More than 23 years later, Bueno has finally secured his first WSOP gold bracelet.

Bueno overcame a field of 90 entries in the 2024 WSOP Europe €2,000 buy-in eight-game mix event, earning $48,174 along with the hardware. This was his third cash of the series, having also placed 17th in the €550 pot-limit Omaha event and 65th in the €1,350 mini main event.

Thanks to this win, Bueno now has nearly $1.1 million in career tournament earnings to his name. The victory also awarded 216 Card Player Player of the Year points for Bueno, his first of 2024.

This tournament ran from Oct. 2-3, with the top 14 finishers making the money. Among those that ran deep were recent WSOP Europe €5,000 pot-limit Omaha bracelet winner Dennis Weiss (14th), two-0time bracelet winner Ilija Savevski (11th), 2023 North American Poker Tour Las Vegas main event winner Sami Bechahed (4th), and three-time bracelet winner Anson Tsang (3rd).

Bueno knocked out Bechahed during a round of pot-limit Omaha, flopping fives full of deuces to best Bechahad’s pocket queens with ace-high hearts. Bechahed was unable to find a queen on the turn or river and was sent packing with $14,541. He then knocked out Tsnag during a round of stud eight-or-better, making a flush on seventh street to best Tsang’s aces up. Neither player had a qualifying low, which meant that Tsang settled for $20,813 for his third-place showing.

Heads-up play began with Bueno holding a massive 14:1 chip lead over Germany’s Daniel Habl. He soon converted that lead into the title, winning the final hand during a round of deuce-to-seven triple draw lowball.

Habl ended up with a pat Q-8-6-4-3 going into the final draw. Bueno was drawing two with 7-3-2. He wound up with 8-7-6-4-2 to earn the pot and the title. Habl was awarded $31,080 as the runner-up.
