Travel News: New Light & Music Showcase at Jewel Rain Vortex

Must read

SINGAPORE – Come Oct 1, there will be a new Light & Music showcase at the Jewel Rain Vortex, which will be jointly launched by online travel agency Trip.com and Jewel Changi Airport.

The immersive show is inspired by travel and designed by Los Angeles-based water feature designer Wet. Show timings will be released closer to the date.

It is part of a three-year collaboration between Trip.com and Jewel aimed at boosting tourism to Singapore. Trip.com will own the naming rights to the Light & Music Showcase for the duration of the partnership.

Since Jewel opened in April 2019, it has never had a title sponsor for the Light & Music Showcase. Its indoor waterfall structure, the Jewel Rain Vortex, was formerly known as the HSBC Rain Vortex as part of a five-year contract with the banking group, which ended in April.

Mr Nigel Chia, head of marketing and partnerships at Jewel Changi Airport Development, says: “The partnership with Trip.com is a marketing-focused one, where both Jewel and Trip.com will leverage each other’s strengths to reach out to a wider audience.

“As our Light & Music Showcase has always been a draw, it is included as one of the marketing touchpoints for Trip.com to strengthen its brand mindshare among Jewel visitors.”

As part of the partnership, Trip.com and Jewel will also run other co-marketing initiatives that tap each other’s resources.

For example, Jewel will be able to promote itself as a must-visit destination to international travellers through Trip.com’s global reach, and Trip.com will receive marketing entitlements, such as advertising spaces around Jewel.

Jewel remains a popular lifestyle destination within Changi Airport. At its nucleus, the 40m Jewel Rain Vortex – the world’s tallest indoor waterfall – cascades down seven floors and is a highlight among international visitors.

From January to June 2024, Jewel’s overall footfall increased by nearly 15 per cent, compared with the same period in 2023. It also reported a record number of more than one million in footfall traffic over the National Day weekend from Aug 9 to 11.

Mr Bo Sun, chief marketing officer of Trip.com Group, says: “Jewel Changi Airport is an iconic global attraction, so we will be working closely with it to showcase the Trip.com brand to visitors, both domestic and international.”
