Adrian Mateos is on a roll at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino in Cyprus. He has finished no worse than fourth in the past four events at the 2024 Super High Roller Bowl Series there, cashing for $1,075,000 in prize money and another $165,000 in bounty payouts along the way.
The 30-year-old poker pro from Spain kicked off his latest hot streak with a runner-up finish for $231,000 in event no. 3, a $25,750 six-max no-limit hold’em event. The following day he placed third in the $51,500 buy-in tournament for another $262,000. The $102,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event of the series saw Mateos finish fourth for $420,000.
After all of those deep run, Mateos finally closed out the win at his fourth consecutive final table. He topped a field of 40 entries in the $25,750 mystery bounty six-max event, earning $162,000 from the main prize pool and another $165,000 in bounty payouts to bring his total to $327,000. The four-time The World Series of Poker bracelet winner now has more than $50.6 million in career tournament earnings, placing him ninth on poker’s all-time money list.
Mateos defeated 11-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey heads-up to secure the victory in this event, locking up 420 Card Player Player of the Year points and 194 PokerGO Tour points in the process. This was his third title and 17th final-table finish of the year. With 8,784 points, he is the clear leader in the 2024 POY race presented by Global Poker, with a 1,564-point lead over second-ranked David Coleman. Mateos also climbed to sixth place in the PGT standings thanks to this win.
Mateos had plenty of stiff competition down the stretch, with Sorel Mizzi (6th), bracelet winner Sam Greenwood (5th), World Poker Tour champion Seth Davies (4th), and recent SHRB Series event no. 2 champion Quan Zhou all running deep.
The final hand was a three-way affair. Zhou held A-6 against Ivey’s K-4 and Mateos’ A-10 suited. Mateos turned a flush to secure the double knockout and the title. Ivey walked away with $300,000 in bounty payouts and $113,000 from the main prize pool. The Poker Hall of Famer now has nearly $46.3 million in career tournament cashes under his belt.
