This analysis, conducted by ADR and National Election Watch, delves into the backgrounds of these candidates, offering insights into their financial status, criminal records, education, and gender representation. The findings reveal a concerning trend, with 20% of candidates having criminal cases against them, up from 19% in 2019, 17% in 2014, and 15% in 2009.
  2. Manish Sisodia of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has taken his legal battle to the highest court in the country, challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to deny him bail in cases related to the purported liquor policy scandal, filed by both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to the cause list published on the Supreme Court’s website, a vacation bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and Sandeep Mehta is set to deliberate on Sisodia’s pleas on Tuesday, May 4.
  3. Ahead of the vote counting scheduled for Tuesday across Karnataka’s 29 counting centres for the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies, officials have ensured extensive preparations, including the deployment of over 13,000 personnel.
