As of Thursday, May 30, no new candidates had filed for the three Faribault County commissioner positions that are open.
All three incumbents had previously filed for re-election.
This is the first of several filing periods for the General Election which will be held on Nov. 5.
The filing period for most federal, state and county offices began on Tuesday, May 21, and continues to this coming Tuesday, June 4.
The three county commissioners whose terms are up are the seats currently held by Bruce Anderson, John Roper and Bill Groskruetz.
Anderson serves Commissioner District 5 which is composed of Minnesota Lake Township, City of Minnesota Lake, Foster Township, City of Walters, Walnut Lake Township, Brush Creek Township, City of Bricelyn, Seely Township, City of Kiester and Kiester Township.
Roper serves Commissioner District 1 which is composed of Blue Earth Township, Ward 3 of City of Blue Earth, Elmore Township, City of Elmore, Rome Township, City of Frost and Emerald Township.
Groskreutz serves District 3 which is composed of Clark Township, City of Wells and Dunbar Township.
Anyone wishing to file for any of the three County Board seats can do so during regular hours at the Faribault County Courthouse in Blue Earth.
According to the County Auditor’s Office, no other elected county officers’ positions are open this year.
Other local area state office filings include several incumbents and challengers.
In State Legislative District 23A, which includes the eastern two-thirds of Faribault County, incumbent Peggy Bennett (GOP) has filed, as has Joe Staloch (DFL).
In State Legislative District 22A, which includes the western one-third of Faribault County, Marisa Ulmen (DFL) has filed. Incumbent Bjorn Olson (GOP) had not filed as of press time for this week’s issue.
No State Senate seats are up for election this year.
For U.S. Congressional District 1, which includes Faribault County, incumbent Brad Finstad (GOP)has filed, as has Rachel Bohman (DFL).
There is one exception for this filing period. Presidential candidates of major parties have until Aug. 30 to file, and non-major parties have until Aug. 20 to file.
The one addition to this filing period is for cities and school districts that hold primaries. Most cities and school districts use the later filing period of Tuesday, July 30 through Tuesday, Aug. 13.
