$6M GTD as PokerStars Sunday Million celebrates 19th anniversary

Must read

For close to 19 years the PokerStars Sunday Million has been one of – if not the – biggest weekly tournaments in the online poker calendar.

Its regular guaranteed prize pool of $1,000,000 has ensured big fields and big paydays ever since its creation in 2006, even as it has experimented with different formats including varying buy-in levels, progressive KOs, mystery bounties and the recent introduction of a phased structure.

But one feature that has stayed the same all this time has been the increased guarantee available in the tournament’s anniversary event. From the Sunday Million’s 1st anniversary in 2007, when the guaranteed prize pool was bumped up to $1.5M, to its 10th in 2016, when the minimum prize pool was set at $10M, the huge money on offer in these special editions has been a highlight of the spring season for decades.

With the 19th anniversary edition of the Sunday Million set for April 6, PokerStars has announced not only a $6M guaranteed prize pool, but a season of promotions built around it.

$18.7M in prizes across Sunday Million Season

The season runs from February 23 to April 8 in the global .COM market, with almost $19M GTD across more than 70 tournaments, leaderboards and prizes.

The Sunday Million Season starts, predictably enough, on Sunday.

Certain tournaments during the season will award leaderboard points, including the weekly Sunday Millions, Super Sundays, Monday Mysteries and the $11 Sunday Storm Anniversary on March 23. These leaderboards will award $100,000 in tickets to the upcoming 2025 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP).

A number of tournaments will also be hosted by members of PokerStars Team Pro, such as Parker ‘Tonkaaaa’ Talbot, Lex Veldhuis, Ben ‘Spraggy’ Spragg and Fintan Hand. Eliminate the host for an instant $215 ticket to the Sunday Million Anniversary Edition. The Red Spade Open and Spectral Shadow events on March 2 will also feature numerous ambassadors, with multiple bounties to be won.

$300K ticket machine, special spins and more

Players who complete Challenges in the PokerStars client will receive entries into the Ticket Machine raffle, with $300K in Sunday Million Anniversary tickets to be won. $215 tickets will also be winnable in special edition Spin & Go tourneys with a $4 buy-in, or in ‘Million Freeroll’ tournaments for the full-on freeroll experience.

Challenges are available for 'opt-in' in the PokerStars client.

There’s also an unusual format to look forward to on April Fool’s Day, April 1, as Spraggy hosts the ‘April Foolishness’ tournament – a mystery bounty with a twist: 99% of the prize pool will be concentrated in just five bounties.

The Sunday Million 19th Anniversary Edition will run for three days from April 6, with a buy-in of $215.
