Three Oakland men were charged last week in connection with an attempted armed robbery in Southern California that left a fitness influencer injured and one suspect dead.

Miguel Angel Aguilar and his wife were returning home on Sept. 13 when they were confronted by three armed men in the driveway of their home in West Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon.

Aguilar was shot in the head and remains in critical condition.

On Oct. 10, police arrested three suspects, all from Oakland: Jason Melara, 19, Mahki Taylor, 18, and Daymonee Johnson, 19.

The suspects were each charged with crimes that include one count of murder, one count of second-degree robbery and one count of shooting at an occupied motor vehicle.

Taylor was also charged with one count of attempted murder. Each faces special allegations of use of a firearm.

A fourth suspect, later identified as Mario Melara, was fatally wounded, the district attorney’s office said.
